Only few kilometres South from Mayrhofen - past the picturesque village of Ginzling - and along the Schlegeis mountain road you will reach the reservoir. The dam of the Schlegeis Reservoir is 131 m high, 725 m long with a 9 m wide ridge. Enjoy the impressive panorama and walks along the lake or other exciting destinations close by: Pfitscher Joch, Olperer Hütte, Friesenberg Haus and much more...
A rare example of Tyrolean timber work can be found in the Devil’s Bridge, which was built in 1876. The bridge spans a narrow, deep gorge, where the Tuxer River flows. The Hochsteg Bridge also originates from the 19th century and spans the Zemm River. Other interesting natural monuments which can be found in the village include the “Alte Linde” (110 year old lime tree), and the “Alte Buche” (750 year old beech tree).
The 2.5 km long Reservoir Stillupp was built in 1966 and lies at an altitude of 1,116 m. You can reach the reservoir by car or bus along a winding road. You will find a mountain inn situated directly at the reservoir – from there you must continue by foot… There is also a regular bus line that reaches Mayrhofen.
The Zillertal railway was built at a time when travelling by train was a real adventure. Nowadays there is still a special charm associated with riding on the nostalgic steam train. What adults may consider this a trip of long lost days from their own childhood, this is a real adventure for the young ones.
